Foot Binding

During The EArly 20th Century the wealthy chinese Women would bind their feet to look pretty. They Start binding their feet at age 4. Some Dies from the pain. If It Hurts and they can't sleep their mom would sit on their feet so it won't hurt so much. Their toe would fold to the bottom of their foot until the bone would break. Womens that has flat feet means their poor and work in the farm or work for the wealthy women that has bind feet.

From My Big Sister I Heard my grandma could have bind her feet but she didn't because she want to help out in the farm.
If We still have foot binding today for the girls to look pretty would you do it?

    Uhm..heck no.

    But i think the real question might be, is how does this relate to other social fads now a days like Gaging ears? I hear thats pretty painfull but people do it because it means your "cool".
    And wow i sound like a teacher right now, god help me. :)

    I love this question Lisa! We haven't discussed this kind of global issue before.

    Does anyone know why they boudn women's feet? I'd be interested to hear why or what the cultural significance was.

    that is pretty messed up. Foot binding has to be one of the most ridiculous things i have ever seen.

    I would not do it permanantly but i would give it a shot for a day or two just to see what they go through. its part of a culture and its not something that our culture thinks might be strange, but i dont knock it till it try it

    i have really really tiny feet so i dont even know if it's possible for that to happen to me, but it looks sooo painful. i dance, and i used to do gymnastic when i was a little girl, and we had to bend our feet forward and have someone sit on them or push them down with their hands and that hurt enough for me!

    OK.HELL NO.. why because it looks dangerous, and another reason why is beacause its a risk your taking with you life.. your feet shouldnt determain your body structure if your pretty or not..or of your rich or poor..
