definitely love the megan fox he she, the walk in the park, and the half naked girl in a tub. you and bobby in that painting is just so wonderful to me, YOUR A JERK.
oka like i think some of this pics are interesting... even though i see them every day.. at work.. but if you really want to get into Detail about thhe paintings they really tell a story.....so basically good job...
love the pis from the contemp. art. is wonderful. i was not excited to go to the art institute because as a kid that was the only place we went on field trips to. I havent not been there for the past two years and i did not know that they added the new section. one it was beautiful and two the art that is in there gives our generation some appeal to art even if they dont have a natural appreciation for art, it gives the viewer relation to the art even if its just the time period the art was created
As for "culture reading" alot of the art delt with racial and sexual issues in my opinion. And you just kinda had to take it in your own way. Like the women in the bath tub holding her boobs,i just thought it was a bit too vulgar for my taste. But some really liked it. It's just how you viewed it. Or how it spoke to you.
Were these all in the modern wing? For some reason, I don't really feel this is all modern, especially the painting at the top of the page. I was a lot more interested in the work on level one...the photography room and Twombly's series of three massive acrylic paintings on wood panels were some of my favorites. I found some pieces in the architectural room on the second floor very thought provoking too.
However, I did not enjoy the tissue box with a bolt through it. It doesn't do anything for me other than mixing feelings of strength and vulnerability.
Noah, what was it about the modern wing that wasn't "modern"? What's the difference between modern and contemporary art?
I know a lot of people think the second floor is pretty "out there."
In Buffalo, where I'm from, we switched to a completely contemporary museum and it was a hard adjustment for the art scene there.
If you are interested in this type of work, you might want to take the megabus to the Walker in Milwaukee---very good example of a contemporary arts museum. And it's only two hours away.
I felt that the painting at the top of this post didn't fit the criteria of being "modern" since it doesn't really represent the present. But, it turns out that wasn't in the modern wing.
The words modern and contemporary are used to describe something relating to present or recent times. In spite of this, modern art refers to work from the mid 19th century to around 1970. Work after that point is considered being "contemporary art" or "postmodern art".
i didnt see that second pic but it was defietly hot lol
