Felix Gonzalez-Torres' "Untitled (Portrait of Ross in LA)"
This is an AIDS activist piece, do you know anything about it? Can you guess? Do some research?
What do you know about
Banksy and graffiti activism? Or groups like
Knitta?
What about Zoran Music's work? He was a Holocaust survivor who became a painter of screaming figures; is this activist art or is he reacting? What's the difference between reaction and activism? Is there a difference?

Banksy is an amazing artist. he is defiantly one of my faves. He is one of those against the government graffiti artists like Shepard Farie (Obey Giant). But, I'm rabbling. Activism, I would say, is some type of reaction. I mean it doesn't just happen, it has to be provoked. Although, activism is standing up for what you believe is right, oppose to reacting is something that you do naturally. For example, When get your reflexes tested, you are reacting to that. I would say that yes, activism is a reaction but, just because you react to something, doesn't mean you're an activist.
ReplyDeleteI think the second picture symbols something seen or have went through and the picture is showing how they view what happened.
ReplyDeleteI saw Banksy's pet store in New York last fall. It was really cool to see him place relations between our pets or animals at the zoo with our clothing and our food. It actually did have an impact on me, but I have yet to change my eating habits.

ReplyDeleteits sooo coool! well banksy looks like for graffiti artist and its really intrestin for me because i've never knew an graffiti musuem exist. i think the government never liked graffiti and don't count it as an "art".
zoran music's work describe everything in the picture that happened in the holocaust. there is no difference between reaction and activism, the words related to the painting is describing how the reaction, their suffering, the pain of it and activism is like wanted to do something about it but can't do it
Noah, the knitting group also knitted headscraves for the mounted heads of animals--it was gross, but really interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteHave you read any Peter Singer? It might make you change your eating habits.
