Go back to Noah's question and think harder

There was a series of photos that really stood out to me on Tuesday when we went to the Museum of Contemporary Photography. They were by Brian Ulrich who received an MFA at Columbia in 2004. His series "Dark Stores" features buildings and store fronts that have been abandoned. It is possible that some of them are left behind when a store moves into a different location, but I'm assuming the majority of these stores went under as a result of our recent economic downturn.

In your opinion, what do you think was the ultimate cause of these stores going under? In what ways could this have been avoided? Lastly, how has this recession affected you personally?

Think about inernational politics. Ask Noah, specifically, what he means and what kinds of issues he's trying to raise. He's asking about cause and effect relationships--what are the causes of our current economic situation?

  2. I think it was Kristen that was saying but, one of the main reasons i think that we are in this recession is because of Americas spending habits and waste. The stores went under because americans stoped buying as much when we got into the recession thus, no need for the store with the pricy jeans.

I found an article that talks about how americans are going to have to change they way they spend and use products.

Just copy and paste into the bar.

Personally the recession has affected me greatly! I wont be able to start here in the fall because i couldnt get enough money together in time. Thats been really hard because now im gooing to have to catch up on my credits in the summer, which could cost more money!

Now my question is, can we really blaim Apple like Kristen said for the way americans spend? if not, who?

  3. Nice article! This kind of active research is so amazing to see on the blog. Woo hoo!

It would be cool if you explained the article a bit or explained why you think it's so relevant to this conversation.

Now, remember, I didn't say Apple was to blame, I said I was reading an article that posited that opinion. But what do you guys think about big business and corporate policy? What do you think about our distribution of wealth?
