I wonder...

So i was doing some research trying to find something to blog about, something serious and on the news and all that jazz, but all I could find was something new about Britney, or Lindsay Lohan. The closest thing I got was whether or not Palin had a boob job?

So i wonder...has entertainment news really taken over real news?

I dont really believe in conspiracys but with all this coverage of MJ's death drama, real shit could be going on and we would never know.

Does our generation really not care about the world around us? Will we all live in this cloud of illusions forever?

  1. personally i think it has. but it its only to side track the public away from the problems really at hand. i feel like our generation does not care about real news because its not our news. News yes is relevant, it is about the war and the economic situation that is not our cause. The War is an old mans battle, that we are burdened to fight, if asked most of the younger generations around the would would have a new and more rational equation for settling thing and making what the absolute option.

  2. I tottally agree with this Squirts, We only care about this tiny bubble of a world around us. There are kids our age around the world that are more open to the world around us, while we watch Youtube, they watch world news.

  3. I honestly dont think that many people actually want to hear about these irrelevent stories. If you look at news network ratings they are at a all time low. No one really watches the news any more because you will usually walk away dumber than you started.

  6. personally i think the news has really changed, everyone seems to care about drama with celebraties and all of that non sense. i would like to see more news about current issues and world and country problems. all of the news about drama and whats going on with other people. so i think the way the news now is completely stupid and useless.

  7. ignorance is bliss and since most of the world is not concerned with what they don't know they are happy being ignorent

  8. But if were ignorent that could put someone in power that would take advantage of it. We would never know what is really going on and the gov. could really hide stuff from us. Ignorence is not bliss..

sorry martini..you know i love you more than Mike!

  9. I read the news every single day. If I don't have anything to do, I'll open up nytimes.com or chicagotribune.com. They're really good sources for politics. Also, I listen to NPR whenever I'm at work.

I can't stand to watch tv though. Current events are really important to me, but it's sometimes hard to find them from an unbiased source. I feel that most networks create fear in the stories they choose to cover.

  11. This is a really great question and one that, as a teacher, is most frustrating too. I am going to have to say that our generations are not world-aware. In fact, in my poetry workshop--when we do our "news poem"--I give extra credit for international affairs. This is not entirely our fault. Obama is the first president who really emphasized international relations and Bush's emphasis on domestic affairs seemed a little closer to the Colonial ideas of isolationism. There has been, always, a chanting isolationist tendency in the states and a desire to "take care of our own," but what does that mean? How are our books addressing that same issue?

  12. Noah, i tottally agree! Sometimes when i do find good news on tv (my family are O'riley fans..ew) I change it cuz its seems like their makeing things worse, trying to strike fear in us. Its most likely for ratings, the scarrier the story the more people tune in.

I think that the whole "take care of our own" thing is an excuss to not get involved in world affairs. Our books are addressing,i know in Stranger than Fiction, by connecting everyone in lonliness. So instead of looking at just one story, it has all of theses conected under the same theory.
