Skeptical Parents
So after a long heartfelt chat with my parents yesterday my mom doesn't think I should go to Columbia. I think she wants me to be a doctor or a lawyer or something but I have never really felt that I had what it takes to do that.(Or wanted what it takes for that matter.) She has always seen that I've reeked of creativity so I don't understand why she can't see that that's not what I want to do. I want to do something that allows me to express myself everyday. I don't care how much I get payed!(Though realistically I understand that we have a fucked up economy right now.) I guess she only wants what's best for me but still it would be nice if she would support me. Also I don't know how I'm gonna pay for school without her help lol.

i totally feel your pain i columbia wasnt even really my first choice school i wanted to go to amda in new york but my mom talked me out of that because of how expensive it was . my mom totally supports me in all that i do but trust it took a long time before i was able to get her to that point. cooutless arguments and sit down discussions.. they all seem liike so meanigless at the time buyt the more you have the better the situation becomes . now my mom toally supports my dream to become famous and would love to be at the oscars with me lol
ReplyDeleteDude, I wish you all the best of luck for all of you who were, are, or will be in that boat.
ReplyDeleteOk its just not my mom its my whole family that thinks Columbia is a joke. I have not support from anyone but a couple of friends plus I have to come out my pocket for everything. And my mom is just coming to realize I'm serious!
ReplyDeletei feel what cha sayin my people was onthe same thing but they always doubted me since i could remember, but some of my family just i'm trying.
ReplyDeleteWOW I WOULD HATE TO HAVE TYO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS SCHOOL LIKE I WAS ASCARED I WOULD HAVE TO GET A JOB TO COME HERE AND THAT WOULD LIKE TOTALLY TASKE AWAY FROM THE EXPERIENCE
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to decide to do something you love, but keep reminding your parents that Columbia is, unlike a lot of arts schools, a liberal arts education. In most jobs, because of how highly educated our population is in this country, you need continued education. Having a liberal arts degree is valued in continued education and in a lot of professions (because you are "well rounded.")
